Introduction
Konstanz is a charming and historic city. Its remarkable history dates back to the stone age, and it has remained almost unchanged. It’s a cultural hub full of museums, historic neighbourhoods, and art galleries. Konstanz is also home to one of the largest lakes in Europe, which is perfect for swimming, boating, and sailing.
Lake Constance
Konstanz is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. This is because of its location on the banks of Lake Constance. It is also referred to as Bodensee in German. The lake’s shoreline is 270 kilometers and touches three countries: Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The waters of the Rhine River build it up. It’s also an extension of the Rhone River from Switzerland.
To the North on the German’s side, you’ll see the Swabian Alb. In the South, Swiss Alps come to light. Its calm waters lap the boundaries of both nations together with the western tilt of Austria.
You can cross to the Swiss side of Lake Bodensee. Here you can enjoy the reddest sunset. Or take a swim to refresh yourself in the vast Lake.
Imperia
The Konstanz harbor is influenced by a rotating stone sculpture referred to as Imperia. The statue depicts a half-naked woman displaying the prostitute Imperia. It’s a landmark for the harbour and has given it its gothic appeal.
History
If you are taking a tour of Konstanz’s ancient medieval region, you witness a part of history. You could visit he council house, or the gothic cathedral. It gives a sense of the city’s rich past. Remember that this is where Constantine (the Roman Emperor) fiercely defended his empire.
Kunstgrenze
When you visit Kunstgrenze, you will be standing in Switzerland and Germany simultaneously. Incredible but true! This is simply the border between the two countries. In the background, you can see the lovely Lake Bodensee.
After passing through the Konstanz Aquarium from the German side, you will reach the border marked by artworks. So, whether by bicycle or on foot, you’ll be travelling from one country to the next without even realising it. You’ll find a viewpoint, a zoo, and a nice place to eat something sweet on the Swiss side.
Isle of Mainau
The island of Mainau in Lake Constance is teeming with historic sites and parks. You can take a tour of the Teutonic order’s Baroque Castle. It was built many centuries ago. It’s a beautiful home for the noble family who guards the island. Among the gardens and parks are a stunning conservatory and a butterfly house. Here, you may find over 600 different tree species. The place has a distinctly tropical appearance. This is thanks to an extensive collection of rare and foreign plants such as tulips and orchids.
Restaurants in the area specialise in Swedish and German cuisine.
Tour of Old Niederburg Town
Niederburg (ancient town) is a small, historic center. The Rhine walk separates it from the rest of Konstanz. You can take a break at one of the quaint boutiques and shops or relax in one of the cozy wine caves and coffee shops.
Unlike many other places in Germany, the town survived World War II, so most buildings are still standing. The old city, which is rich in architecture and history, can teach you a lot.
It has a pleasant climate, a magnificent lake, a diverse population, and beautiful mountains. This is one town that has stood the test of time and continues to dazzle.
